Connecting Stripe to collect rent

Online rent needs somewhere to land. Nexxus uses Stripe — the same payment infrastructure behind much of the internet — and each company connects its own Stripe account, so rent goes straight to you. Nexxus never holds your money.

The one-time setup

Settings → Payments & Stripe → connect. Onboarding runs right inside Nexxus (no separate Stripe website account needed) and asks for what any payment processor legally must collect: business details, your identity, and the bank account for deposits. Have these handy and it's about ten minutes:

• Legal business name and EIN (or your SSN as a sole proprietor)
• A representative's identity details
• Bank account and routing numbers

Stripe verifies the information; most accounts activate quickly, occasionally after a follow-up document request.

After connecting

• The Payments settings unlock: enable rails and set the card fee (details).
• Tenants immediately see payment options in their portal, and autopay enrollment opens.
• Payments land in your Stripe balance and pay out to your bank on Stripe's automatic schedule (typically about two business days).
• Payment status and balances are visible from the same settings tab.

Fees, plainly

Stripe's processing costs are what they are — roughly free-ish for ACH-style bank debits, ~3% for cards. The card convenience fee exists to pass that cost through rather than eat it. Nexxus's own economics live in your subscription, not in skimming rent.

Troubleshooting

• "Restricted" or "information needed" — the settings tab surfaces what Stripe still wants; it's almost always one more document.
• Tenant says they can't pay — check the rails are enabled and the connection shows active; a tenant on a fresh account also needs their portal login (their invite email covers it).
